Reviews of Firedragon Rising
From Tash McAdam, author of The Psionics and Warp Weavers series:
Oh man, I LOVE this series. It really is a breath of (monster-y) fresh air. The evil comes in two guises. The government who rule the world with an iron fist, and the actual evil-monsters who want to eat you. In a world run by the evil Triumvir, ostensibly protecting the common people from the horrors of the underworld, but in reality oppressing and abusing their power, Aurelia Sun refuses to be part of the lies any more. Determined to join the rebellion and fight for the cause, she heads off into the unknown, alone, armed with her shiny new swords. I adore Aurelia. Her snarky, take no prisoners self confidence is exactly what I want in a heroine. She's talented, brilliant, and knows it. I can't get enough of this whole universe. I'm so excited to see where it goes. I've said it before about Fan, but she really is an absolute master of description. Her monsters aren't the familiar kind, orcs or dragons that you can get away with just touching on, but entirely new breeds. Fan paints them vividly, with all the senses, and so the writing really immerses you in the moment. This was a fast paced, action packed little novella that had me racing through to find out what was going to happen next. It also did a wonderful job recapping what we learned inThe Firedragon and adding detail to what is clearly an incredibly rich world. Can't wait for the next one, keep writing! |
